J1 Visa Rejected – Interview Experience – Reason – 214(b)

Following J1 Visa interview experience was shared by a exchange student. His visa was rejected. At end of this experience, read my analysis to why his J1 was rejected.

J1 Visa Rejected

My J1 Visa was rejected last December. Before this J1 Visa, I was rejected for my B1/B2 visa. Here’s how my visa interview went. The VO asked me the following question.

1. Why you are going there?
I am going there for research in pharmacology.

2. What is your qualification?
I have done B.Pharm.

3. From which University you have done graduation?
I have done graduation from XYZ.

4. How many Universities did you apply?
I applied to University of Tennessee Health Science only.

5.What are you doing these days?
I have left my job because these days I am preparing myself for research.

6. She asked me to show her my transcript and I showed her my trancript as well as my degree.

7.When did you applied for this?
I applied to University few months back.

8. Did University take your interview or test?
I said No

In the last, she said I am unable to give you visa this time. You can apply next time but with a different reason. When I asked her the reason she said I don’t think so you have good credentials.

J1 Visa Interview Tips:

Looks like you are trying to go to the USA by using J1 visa as an entry. One university application, not test scores doesn’t go well with visa.

  • Application to just one University
  • No test scores
  • Previous B1/B2 Rejection

As visa officer suggested, you need to improve your profile, apply for better university with good scores. This may take time for you to take tests, academic profile improvement. But, if your goal is to study in America, then you have to put the required effort.

Second, they didn’t ask me for Toefl and GRE .They sent me some research topics which they wanted me to study before coming there and I was working on it.But I am keeping my fingers crossed.I will apply again .I am studying pharm D ritenow and want to pursue my graduate degree in Biomedical sciences. Hope this time I will get it……I always need your suggesions ….Thanks alot for your reply…
