TOEFL iBT Score 95 – Is it Enough for PhD?

I appeared for TOEFL iBT on the 25th of July, and the exam was quite difficult than the practice materials available. I did really badly in the listening section.
In the writing section, I was expecting a good score, but I ended up getting only 24. My overall score is 95.
I want to pursue PhD studies in the USA or Canada. Any advice for me? Should I retake the test?
TOEFL iBT Score
A TOEFL iBT score of 95 is definitely good enough to get admission in the U.S. for a PhD program. Most universities in America will have a minimum required TOEFL score of around 60 to 80.
So a score of 95 in TOEFL is enough to apply and get PhD admission. I’ve encountered many similar comments in this blog, such as:
- I scored 85 in TOEFL, can you give me a list of U.S. universities that accept the score and give admission with aid?
- Can I apply to study in graduate schools in the U.S. only with a TOEFL iBT Score of 78?
After minimum the TOEFL iBT score requirements are met, other factors like GRE score, academic percentage, and research experience will be taken into account by an admission committee.
Also, applying for a PhD program is not the same as applying for admission into a master’s program.
So in your case, it’s not required to retake the test. If you had a score of less than 60, then you can consider retaking TOEFL iBT exam. But not with a good score of 95.

Hi ! my toefl score is 78 and I have research experiences with the best groups around world at my area, biomedical engineering. Also I have goverment scholarship covers university tuition, insurance and some part of living expenses. Do I need to increase my TOEFL score, or it is ok to have PhD acceptance from USA universities ?
TOEFL score of 78 is on the low side. For PhD schools may need higher core.
But, check with admission requirements before retaking the test.

For an application for a PhD program, within the same ETS code for a school, how does one differentiate an MBA program from a PhD program. I can find divisions like “Graduate Schools” & “Graduate School of Management”. Which one is for PhD?

hmm…ya i know i very well satisfy the criterion stated by almost every american University but the thing is i had heard with good TOEFL the chances of initial TA/RA are much better.
Moreover, i had reject from NCSU EE for Spring 12. As per seniors on edulix, it could be because of Spring factor or TOEFL since it should have been quite safe because of my acads.

I have taken my first TOEFL test in 3 DEC, 2010. I got 76 (R-17, L-15, S-23, W21) out of 120. But the university refused to give admission having the score of 76, they want 80 for doctor of psychology programme..I am going to rewrite my exam..Any suggestions ??
