How to get started from Blogging

The first step is to start a blog.

You can use free blogging platforms like Blogger, WordPress, Tumblr, etc.

For those who don’t know, WordPress is a blogging platform (HSB is running on WordPress).

With WordPress, you don’t need to know coding skills. Everything is automated. Without touching any HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, you can run a blog.

If you are serious, then you should create a domain name and web hosting. It doesn’t cost a lot these days to host a website.

Even if you don’t plan on making serious money, it’s an additional skill to have.

Web Hosting Expense?

  • Domain Registration Cost ($10 per year)
  • The web Hosting Cost

I recommend  A Small Orange shared hosting plan. It costs only $2.92 per month with fantastic support.

Above all, they have one click WordPress install.

After you create an account with them, with a click of a button, you will have WordPress blog installed automatically.  No coding or technical setup is required.

As listed above, Affiliate income is one way to make money from blogging, a perfect example of an affiliate income.  KnownHost and Small Orange links are affiliates links. If you like my recommendation and sign-up for the service through the link above, I will get a small referral fee.

Why affiliate marketing works?

I have used few other hosting companies and read reviews about 30+ hosting companies. Most of the folks reading this page will be first-time, bloggers. I understand you need, and level of support is required for you to host your first website/blog.

If you were to find a hosting company, you have to spend the time to read the reviews and understand the pros and cons. Now, I have saved you time by recommending the best product for your need.

Now, you get the idea about making money from blogging.

  1. Hey Raghu, I am planning to go for Affiliate Program. Can you tell me about “drawing the online traffic towards your website?” What is it and how can it be done?

      1. Well not yet. I came across this affiliate program thing just 3 days ago. Well went through some of the articles related to blogging just yesterday…:) So, do you mind telling me how exactly this is done? Also I read that you need to have a blog or website of your own. Do I have to sit and write a blog I mean for ex, HSB?

  2. I have a question HSB !!!

Can one publish ADs at ORANGE right after registering or should one has to wait for 6 months like ADSense -Google ???

    1. Small Orange is an web hosting company. You are free to do with the space. Host a blog, web application, traditional websites, etc. Adsense is ad netowrk. For publishers in Inida, they require website to be atleast 6 months old.

  3. Hi,

    I have a query.

Is it possible to earn money through online (like Blogging, Affiliate Marketing, Web Designing etc.) when you are in USA with a F1 Visa status ? Aren’t the Immigration Authorities going to take it as a violation of F1 Visa Status and can deport back to home country ?

  4. Hi HSB,

Need your guidance regarding starting website.

Say I start a website for a niche audience. If I am planning to make money out of it through advertising (And I mean specialized ads and not the google ads), is the website supposed to be registered as a company (proprietorship)? If yes, can I, as a student/immigrant, register a website company in the US or would it be feasible to do so in India?

  5. You managed to work around AdBlock Plus 😀 It’s too bad I can’t start earning money right now. Thanks for the info.

    1. And oh yes, I think I’m going to give WordPress another shot. And maybe save the money-making for later 🙂

          1. Earning money through affiliation, with a super interesting sentence that would for sure make me click on the link 😀

          2. With affiliate links are not PPC links. Referral fees is given only if someone buys the product. Thats the beauty of the referrals. I’m likely to buy something only after reading the reviews. I will trust the reviews of folks I follow and believe in. Thats it.

There are so many hosting providers, but new bloggers need to hit the ground running. People have assumed you need to have CS background and coding skills to run a website. So, message has to be conveyed the way people want to listen. What is their problem and how can this product solve their problem.

            Got it?

Also, I’m not forcing anyone to buy. I’m giving the pros and cons. You do your research and make the decision.
