Surplus Human task force BUT lack in talent (INDIA) why ? why ? why ? why ?

India in not exception to diversity in pay packages, An average Indian fresh IT graduate may not get any SALARY at all for his first 6 month.

He is kept working as trainee or even ff get they get 15K-20K Indian rupees  (per month) =  $200 is even not sufficient to afford rental accommodation in metro CITIes where these companies operate (leaving meals apart),

For Accommodation you need to pay 2 months salary as rental advance and upto 1 year advances in some cities like “Bangalore” to start carrier.

From there they start their careers hard innovative journey in these Indian IT companies whose savings directly goes to top managerial people’s pockets who are generally not billable by us clients as opposed to he ground level software employee(worker).

Bill Gates often call them as skills. ie to say A grass level employee (Engineer) implicitly keeps company ruining along ALONG with the top-level managers.

On an average for every Indian Engineer in Indian IT company billable by us client there are three non billable Managers that feeds on Engineers Salary.

Engineer only controlled by managers whose task are generally not related to computer by any means say (attendance, compliance logistics etc)

Theses manages often thrive for innovation and creativity in organization.

They control regulate the Workers appraisal process (not related) and company policies often not liked/understood by Indian Workforce engineer and they(Engineer) often switches to new companies every 1-2-3 years

That reason Indian companies heads in cheap and surplus labor task force but lack in talent pool (creamy layer) is because of bad managerial policies/decisions often not rational and related.

20K is for who get placed via campus in MNC’s. Freshers who get who get job in small IT companies mostly get around 7K to 15K. A friend of mine is working for 5K

The Qs is not about being content, it’s about option/choice which fresh graduates don’t have in INdia.

SALARY: Unless you’re an IITian or any high profile Tech University product, MNCs offer no more than 25k pm and as said by Mr. Kumar some Graduates also hv to do with less than 10k pm. You may get better offers once u r experienced but until then you’ll have to be content with what you’re getting, simply coz you don’t have any other choice.

JOB/COMPANY: No one in IT loves their Job or Company. It’s a fact, people do it just bcoz they need to. You’ll see Chemical/Electrical/Electronics/mechanical/civil … even Biotech students end up in IT companies.

WHY? — They don’t have time or Support to follow into their fields. They have to hold on to what they’re being offered RIGHT NOW. And lastly LIVING CONDITIONS: Let’s not even talk about that…

About IT Services Company

Entry Level IT engineers are paid like 5k to 25k per month here in India.

Probably their client from USA might be paying them $2500 to $6000 per person.

Well, thats the state of IT services company.

  1. Come on this sounds too ridiculous, I am not studing in iit or nitk and you know what 20% of our college students are offered more than 7.5lakh per annum. Highest is 16 lakh per annum . What do you say about that ?

    1. @Govil: There are 1000+ Engg Colleges in India leading to 5 lakhs+ Engg per year (of all fields). If you ever travel to Bangalore and attend an off campus recruitment drive of any recognized IT company you’ll be amazed to see the scene there. For 3 or 4 job positions there would be like 2000 applicants. Can you imagine what the competition would be like ? So we’re not talking about one College here, we’re discussing this problem as a whole.

      1. colleges are not problem, problem is course curriculum, impractical training, inexperienced facutly. How many people who teach in these colleges write a paper in any engineering technique. Engineering is a technique to solve a problem. Machines + mathematics == engineering to be frank. It has nothing to do with how indians percieve things, clear IIT etc. Engineers needs to be trained properly first of all.

    2. only 1-2% students get more than 5L, however most of the freshers start with 10K or below.

      1. I am manager I know what we pay – Freshers starts @ 1,76,000 to 2,60,000 , Some get a better deals due to better acedamics , they get 3.60,000 to 4,50,000 . it will not cross 5 lakhs in todays market . Againt there are exceptions were some were offered 8laks to 16 lakhs but these flocks will not wrk in day to day support activities . They will be moved to Product making design and reasearch etc . Flocks Got it ?

  2. This is exactly the scenario in tday’s IT world of india. Nobody knows the basic fundamentals involved in a project, managers too busy in sending emails all day long,the essential quality of an engineer which is reasoning nd applying logic developed through 4 yrs of engg fades away too easily. B4 neone knows, an year or two passes just like that. But the most imp effect it has on one’s persona is he looses focus on his personal aims in order to achieve companie’s aim.

    1. people don’t even know that in which field of engineering are they working. First of all, how many people know software engineering field. Check about software engineering in wikipedia, it has nothing related with computer science etc. Software engineering is a case of industrial engineering where resources are to be optimized in a given cost or budget. Now we have computer aided software engineering techniques. And software engineering is also not programming. Programming is a technique to solve a problem. Software engineering involves coding. When a mechanical engineer asks for CAD/CAM, he basically is telling functionality for the coders to develop that stuff, as he will be the end user of this CAD/CAM software.

  3. @Govil: I hope you are not saying that the ‘average’ salary offered at your college is 7.5k p.a. because this would be an impractical scenario, when talking about Indian Engineering(at least!) graduates (other than few of the IIT’s.JUST few!). This post discusses about those remaining 70%* (average) students(*taking your case-CONSIDERING that 16k p.a was offered to 10% of the students of your college which would actually be the just the peripheral figure). Almost every college has those kind of ‘20%’ students. But those 70% students need a chance to show the world what they are actually worth!
    BTW, which year are you in? Sophomore? Junior? (don’t feel offended!) because such a comment can only be expected from someone who is unaware of practical world.

  4. Being an IT Manager Let me put facts straight and Hard facts which pain people. Company gets work and Deligates to manegers to manage. Cost leverage and + / – Adjustments possible for salary only if you stand front in lane. HR policy says ” Fresher Hired / Training and settle down in one Domin take 3 Years. !year – What you contrubute is comapny is taken as Zero. 2nd Year – Your are billable Reasource . Your gragh starts decline in 3rd year becuase you interact with more people and understand how foolish you are and starts metured . So HR policy say 3 years if you leave also no issues as 2 years you worked for 20th Percentile of actual skill billable cost. so that comes 80% margin overall. At that point they dont want you. So My work is done at Dam cheap price. This is not some one in INDIA started. These are purely take away from US / Europe policies to INDIA. So waht matters is how you get a break and what is the deal you get with company. Also Dont run behind Money as some companies Lets say Top 10 IT companies , Some times pay more than what you ask. Reason is simple , Let say 10 member team in which 5 Freshers with 10 -15 K , 2 seniors with 20 Times more salary of these freshers , 3 Intermediate candiates with Not bad , Not good salary. Also, if you feel that seniors are getting paid more , then you are wrong HR policy say get these rest flocks trained well enough to manage and Once they are up Full, either ask them to take much higher role or Fire them as layoff. HR say we cant keep high paid people for long time options are 1. Either they take more work 2. take more responsible role 3. Use them and throw them. saying you are over paid as per market. Moral of the story — Its pure business , Where is USA and where is INDIA , Projects and people come from so far to business here in this Dull country ? You are wrong , They make huge menas huge profits there and thier salaries goes in 1 to 2 lakh $ for talented professionals and they save 90% of cost . Currently What india operate is at 34% cost and 60 % savings to US projects al most all companies , and Mexico work at 80 % profit and 20% cost. End of day every one is in same boat but You have to be very smart in your decessions else , we use and throw like Tissue paper . This is tough to accept but it is reality .

    1. After 2 lay offs, i realized the truth. Now i seriously don’t give a damn for anyone in my team, be it fresher or be it anyone. My agenda now is come to office, work for 9 hours, and get out. Infact, i use fridays and saturdays now as to learn my own skills, and i am trying to get connected, where i will open my consulting and will then hire and fire at my will.

  5. Please unerstand its a business. When you go to market some time you get a better deal , some times you accept as no choice . its the same. FaceBook offered 32 lakks for few freshers I know personally but they are taken for a ride as no company can pay that much not even google. But These smarts know that once thier jobs are done either they will have options to train others etc or come back to normal salaries like 20 lakhs in coding . Also , they are offered in indian salary but when you see in $ its the same they are paying in US. Also, for every once informations CHINA is picking like crazy , They are too dedicated and their nature is like slow and steady win race. They are saying pay us %0% of what india projects are charging , we will delivery better eventually hoever initially compermise on quality . Corporates are OK for that and we will see a slight change in IT industry and BPO call centers moving to china No sooner later . .

I am totally agree that Freshers in IT industry do not get such package not even more then 3.5 L per anum (20 to 25 K per month in hand salary) in most of the cases until you do not belong to IIT or any prestigious college. And this is only in case if you work in MNC not in any small IT company. The first reason behind this is most of the project in our country are maintenance project (Support level project), there are very few projects here which starts from scratch. So learning at company level become very less comparatively cause it does not need much skills or concepts. Secondly number of engineering college are burgeoning in country but they do not have skilled faculty or any facility which is not even 10 % of any USA tech university. So the student from there are not so skilled. I know its not truth for few college/ University but applies to rest of all colleges.
    So for somebody getting a job become so essential after completing graduation even company offers them this salary, after joining they realize that with this salary survival is hard in any Metro city. As they do not get any good salary hike in same company.That is the reason why they switch companies to get a better growth in salary.

I worked in India for 4+ years with an MNC..Problems in India are many folds!..Official working hours would be 9.5 hours (you are paid for that many hours only), but if one member in the team is ready to stay for 12 hours or even more [mainly because, they have nothing to do outside office!], then obviously the same is expected from every member. And more people in the team start sitting late and missing their personal lives!..After all, its about surviving the competition too!!… But, once in a while, management should think about quality of work and productivity too..not just no. of hours spent in the office!..

    Regarding billing Vs salary, normally an employee (with less than 5 years of experience in the industry) is paid 10-20% of his billing amount..I did not find any solution to this other than hop companies in regular intervals (2 years or so) for the first 5-6 years in the industry.

  8. Yes, its all about the business. About me, two years ago I started my career in just 3k pm. I had to work even on sunday and holiday. According to management, they give chance candidate to work and through this they earn most important thing “experience”.

    Although today, I am paid 18k from the same company, but I am always overloaded of work. Even I have to teach students 2 hours per day. So, I am software developer + teacher.

    At the end, its all about the money.

  9. The condition of IT engineers seem pathetic. I feel we should never take up such jobs in the first place. Rather we should try to study hard and try to clear GATE and get admission to the IITS/NITS. An Mtech student at an NIT gets 10K as stipend every month without even slogging the hours that an IT engineer does.

    It is because we agree to work under such conditions that companies treat us like this.

    1. And then what about the salary after M.Tech ?? Whether that M.Tech guy can earn 1L PM right away as soon as he finishes his M.Tech ?? Every fresher has the challenge to accomplish himself until/ unless he gets some good experience. Good experience is not about years spent in any any industry. Experience is when your knowledge that can be converted to time.

      1. even in USA, people struggle to get that first job. But then, there, talent is recognized. There, software engineers means software engineer, the one who design frameworks, learn more than 1 langauges.

  10. I am an entry level Engineer. This is as per my experience and opinion.
    I had 60 people in my class of an average Engineering college. At the end of education,
    5 – Opted and succeeded in going abroad
    10 – Got placed on campus(due to their high percentage)(>3.15)
    20-30 – Got placed off campus in good companies(>3.15 lpa)
    20 – Got jobs in local companies and are working for as low as 5k-15k…….

    The talented people….who get good percentages will land come where or other good companies(exceptions are there)

    As of me, I got placed in a walk-in and used to get 9k p.m. in IT industry as QA Analyst.
    It was really shameful for me to see my frnds earning 25k p.m as entry level……

    Are they content with salary, living conditions, job, company etc?

    And as per my frnds who stay in different cities(eg:one in BOSCH bangalore) is earning 4lpa after 2 years, and savings are near to 5k-10k.He keeps on trying to shift to his home city so that will minimize his costs……..

    So no one can be happy how much ever they get some or the other problem is there……..Our emotions vary according to the pay hikes companies give……..

    My Main aim was to get out of this corporate life and warn dollars………

  11. It is true, i mean, india produces engineers who struggle to do CRUD jobs, forget about designing web services.

  12. To be honest, these IT service companies don’t event want talent. All they look for is the skill. They don’t screen the resumes properly to know about the candidate. May be, someone had to work in a domain, due to specific reasons, but then, he/she do some other works also, as their hobbies. But that’s never ever taken into account, all they care for is to turn the candidate into a billable resource,that’s it resource.
