Innovative Job Search Site For OPT, CPT, F1 Students – DesiOPT.com
Here is my review of DesiOPT.com. A site that is Connecting F1 Students in USA To Employers.
Lets look at a job search and networking site called DesiOPT.com.
Here is a comment from Raj when he responded to For Middle Class Students – Who is Paying for Your Higher Education Expenses?
- University – Stratford (Current)
- Source of funding – Worked on CPT and paid off.
- Expenses – $25,000 (Tuition fees)
- Cost of Living – $10,000 p.a
Don’t you think it would be awesome to pay off your loan and education expense even before completing Masters?
What is CPT?
According to Department of Homeland Security Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is defined as “alternate work/study, internship, cooperative education, or any other type of required internship or practicum which is offered by sponsoring employers through cooperative agreements with the school.”
Now, you must be wondering how is this CPT related to DesiOPT?
Well, DesiOPT connects F1 Visa students on OPT/CPT (Internship) with Employers.
Students from 150+ universities are registered to the site already and they can be connected to over 1000+ Employers.
To understand how the site works, I created an account as a job seeker.
After verifying the account via link in email, there was an option to create your profile and upload the resume.
They have this cool Resume Blast feature. More on that later.
Once, logged in, there is an option to search OPT, CPT, jobs along with contact details of the employer.
OPT, CPT Job Openings
At this time of writing about 1500 jobs were posted in the site.
I was curious to know if there is any charge for job searching candidates. So, I DesiOPT team and they said it completely free for job seeker and employers pay to advertise the job posting.
Using this Resume Blast feature, your resume will be submitted to over 2500+ Corporate and Consulting employers and save time, hence finding the right job opportunity.
Alumni Connection
Alumni from different industries share their job search and career path knowledge with students.
F1 students who recently joined school and can proactively connect with Alumni to prepare for CPT/OPT jobs
Immigration Advise
Registered members can attend conference calls to connect with Immigration attorney to ask questions.
Typically, consulting with an Immigration Attorney would cost you like $50 to $250 for 30 minutes. But, during conference call with attorney’s you can ask questions related to your OPT, CPT and F1 visa status for free of charge.

I just talked to my current employer and they are willing to sponsor for my H1B visa. I am currently working under OPT, but my OPT is going to expire June 30th. I am planning to apply for the cap gap extension for OPT, but since the company has not filled out the paper work for H1B yet, I am worried I won’t make it on time for OPT cap gap extension since I need to wait for the H1B notice and the school to re-issue the OPT and mail everything to USCIS.
If in case you cannot find a job within 90 days of your OPT start date, then you would have to go back to your country or find other ways to stay legally in USA.
If you are struggling to find a job, resume blast features will help read several employers, who are looking for hire students in OPT.
You can also, search for internship openings via DesiOPT.
