Hi My visa Interview was on June 1st, 2012 at the Hyderabad Consulate for Masters Program At the University of Connecticut, Storrs majoring in Computer Engineering.

The Interview went like this….
My appointment was at 10:15 am and I reached the Consulate at 9:30am… By the time I went in it was around 10:00 and after the initial screening of I-20 passport and all Had to wait for the finger prints for like 25-30 minutes. Huge line.

Then was given a token number and my number came at around 11:10. Had to wait at the counter for like another 10-15 mins…

221g Interview Hyderabad 2012

VO: Good Morning, Pass me your passport
Me: Good Morning. Yeah surfe. Here they are.

vo: Ok. So y this university?
me: I staeted with this is one of the oldest public reseach univs in the US…(VO interrupted)

VO: I know u must have prepared a lot for this interview please tell me from your heart why did u chose this univ?
(I was like SHIT! I screwed it up here itself)
ME: I told about the research opportunities and the etc facts for about 15-20 secs and he told OK that sounds more from the heart

VO: So u have an assistantship?
ME: Yes. I have one.

vo: what kind of research interest do u have?
me: started off with the professors name under whom I will be working and I mentioned the research areas and one of the areas I mentioned was “BIO-“INFORMATICS…. I am guessing that because of this I got a 221(g) coz in the Technology Alert List(TAL) the word Bio and Information Security is there.

Vo: acads?
Me: 68% till IV-I. Haven’t received my last sem results

me: 295/340 and awa 4.0

vo: What does ur father do?
me: told

vo salary?
me: told

vo mother occupation?
me: told

vo: mother salar?
me: told

vo:how many univs applied

vo: what are the admits?
me: told

vo:y did I chose this univ from the admits?
me: I responded back stating that this is the oldest university and a well established one in research among the admits

vo: OK that sounds good. I have sent you an email please respond back to that and we will get back to you as soon as possible…. I didn’t know what to answer and what to ask.

I told Thank You and came out of the hall with a smile.
Then I asked the Indian lady who was roaming around there to help and she was like you please respond and we will get back to u…. I responded back on saturday night and my case was updated on wednesday evening.
Really scared for this. Any experiences with 221(g) in Hyderabad for Fall 2012?

    Dear all,

I got a 221g last week. I went to hyd ofc to submit all the documents, and they mentioned that you should receive a drop box conformation page and pay the fee. I told them, the page says no service fee, but they did not agree. I will take the printed page from the consulate site on the coming weekday to ask them again, and accept my documents.

Additionally, when I received an email to answer the questionaire and attach any supporting documents in pdf format I already did it 5 days back. The questionaire was also attached to the email, rather than just responding to the email. Will it be a problem for them in finding the questionaire with other documents?
Although, all the documents were attached to the same email, do I need to give hardcopies??

Somebody please respond soon. I am really worried about it.

  7. Barabek on June 25, 2012 at 12:54 AM

I had my security check for 3 months. After check they’ve called me and asked to come for the visa without any additional fees. Good luck.

    • Nitish on June 26, 2012 at 9:29 AM

3 months is too long for me .. hope to get it in the next couple of weeks

  8. Vimal on June 24, 2012 at 2:21 PM

You’ll get te visa no problem, but… why the hell did you mention bioinformatics of all things? Were you testing them to see if they know what’s on the TAL?!!

    • Nitish on June 26, 2012 at 9:31 AM

Dude, I neva thot that he would ask about the research that I will do there. So I had just gone through my professors projects under whom I have an assistanship and in that these projects were there. So I was really neva prepared for this. What came to my mouth is what I told. 🙂

  9. Rushika on June 24, 2012 at 8:06 AM

Well you should get it sooner or later, the fact that they kept your passport is a good sign. But out of the whole field of computer science, you pick something like bio-informatics to say to them, knowing the concept of the TAL?! The only thing worse than that would be saying something like flight training or nuclear physics (for other branches, of course)…

    • Nitish on June 24, 2012 at 8:28 AM

I had no idea about TAl till I did some research on 221(g) 😛 I was pretty confi on getting a visa but he asked about the research and I screwed it up. But nevertheless it ended on a positive note so Im happy with that but at the same time tensed also bcoz its been 3 weeks 🙁 Hope to get it soon

Me and My friend also got 221g at Hyderabad visa consulate in June 2010.My VI was very short,it was only for seconds. When asked about the program I applied I said it was Electrical Engineering (Wireless Communications) and my friend said BIO-TECHNOLOGY,then we were sent to the next counter where we filled up a 3 page form and got a number to check the status. At that time 221g was very rare,so I was upset. After reading reviews from HSB and talking to seniors we came to know that this happens sometimes to UNLUCKY people.I got my VISA on 24th day from the day I attended the interview and my friend got 2 days after I got. Also now a days 221g became very common. This was told by many “Be confident because your passport is with them,if they have no intention of giving you visa they might have given the passport back to you”.And on the other side if you are religious PRAY to GOD.So don’t worry you will get your VISA.ALL THE BEST 4 your future endeavors.

Hey…i also got the 221(g) at the kolkata consulate….can anyone please help as to how i should give the answers of the questions asked in the questionnaire…i am going for MS Bioinformatics
        to Georgia Tech….

        • Nitish on June 27, 2012 at 7:26 AM

Gaurav, See the research thing totally depends on your field and your areas of interest. Other questions are the questions that u filled out in the DS-160 form so u shouldnt have a problem. In itinerary write ur tentative itinerary. All the best.
