Have You Considered Blogging As a Career in India?
Have you ever considered Blogging as a career in India or in your home country?
I have never come across anyone with so far, who wants to become a pro blogger.
There are few full-time bloggers in India.
Potential to make money by blogging is huge. Huge. But, not many folks are aware of this career path.
If you haven’t explored Blogging as your career, you should seriously consider becoming a professional blogger (Professional Blogger).
Your parents might not agree to it initially. But, if you can show them that you can make money online, they should support you.
Traditional Career Path
Typically three options exist for new graduates
- Get a Degree and a Full-time job
- Get another degree
- Take care of your Family Business
But, there is this 4th option – Self-Employment, Entrepreneurship.
We don’t see many new graduates talk about Entrepreneurship and Starting a new company. Making money online will fall under 4th option. The startup scene in India is booming. All you need is right idea and grit to follow through your idea.
Parents Involvement
In, India parents play a huge role in deciding their kids future career. When they are on the lookout for Engineering colleges, most of them look for on-campus placement rates.
Why?
They are thinking in terms of getting ROI. If my son or daughter studies this degree in this college, what are the chances of job placements? What will be the monthly salary?
They feel proud when their son or daughter get a job through campus placement.
Blogging As a Career in India
Did you know, serious money can be made from blogging?
As an entry-level software engineer in India, you might earn an average of INR 25,000 per month right? I was listening to a TV show (in Tamil). IT Engineers get like INR 8000 per month in some companies. I just couldn’t visualize a lifestyle with USD120 per month. But, in reality that can feed a family in India.
What hurts me is the lack of exposure to opportunities abounds with self-employment. If you are good at web design, start your shop or pick new skills to make money online. Blogging is one such way. Here’re 22 ways to make money from blogging. Maybe, you will become good at one of those ways. What if you can earn more than your full-time job via at from blogging? Would you be willing to give it a shot?
Example – Advertisement Cost in HSB
Four 125×125 ads that you see on the right side on the sidebar here in HSB.
- Cost Per 125×125 = $150
- Cost for 4 Slots = $600
Compare that to your Entry Level Salary for a Software Engineer.
- $600 = About Rs33,000
- Entry Level S/W Salary = $500 = Rs25,000
What if you can show your family that you can earn more money from blogging?
Wouldn’t they encourage and support you for making money online in India via blogging?
Here in the USA, I run into bloggers who travel around the world. I have seen students who take one year off to explore the world or get an enriching experience. There’s so much to learn and earn from this world, all it takes in a keen set of eyes and action.
Question to You
I want to leave this discussion open-ended.
I would like to know your comments and thoughts about blogging as your career in India.
What is preventing you from considering blogging as a career in India?
Have you considered any other income stream than blogging?
This is a forum where the intellectual minds could get connected with each other and share their opinions and visions regarding the construction of a developed India, a society free from any type of prevailing evils and collective consciousness could take a step forward for the abolition of inequality, peace, brotherhood and complacency will be the seeds that need to be inculcated on the land of Gandhi and Buddha, jai jagannath
The article which I went through right now in an evening when I was wandering how to create a world of convenience online which in return would fetch me a cashful pocket finally paid well when I realised my potential on the topic, thank you sir very much for your unsolicited precious counsel.
hello Raghu,
your posts are always good and helps in some way or the other. Just have a query , if you can give some light on that. If a new blogger, using WordPress.org, then it is hard work /success of the blogger that decide the kind and/or type of ads you can put in your website from Google ad sense?Google has to select the candidate based on performance or something?Exactly how does it work? Please reply
I am looking for an opportunity to establish my empire in the world of internet that enhances my career ,brings me into lime light and earns good amount of money as well.i know that creating a blog and earning through it is not a job that can happen in a day or two it takes a lot of pain.i can feel it because HSB is a live example of this.it took many years(i think) to HSB to come to this position.i am a great fan of Mark Zuckerberg not because he made some billions out of FB but because he created an unforgettable memory in the minds of young people. as of now i cannot predict the future of FB but i can say it will be remembered by especially youth who lived in the era of Facebook.i believe hard work makes a living but hard+smart work makes fortune.
In blog shown, Cost Per 125×125 = $150.
Lets start blogging, but one second… who is ready spend this much money for newly created blog.
To earn real money through this, need to first create popular brand. Like, initially HSB was without any advertisement and now it is getting big money because its getting lots of hits.
We have another good example, that is Facebook. Note that there is only one Facebook.
So, to build something powerful, it takes time, effort, hard-work everything. Its not an easy task.
Blogging is surely a good business but its time and patience to earn money from blogging……so i would like to suggest fellow bloggers to have some patience and keep up the hard work then only expect good results from bloggong
About 4 years ago I heard about making money through blogging and other sources in internet. But, I heard different voices, like some said its good, others said have to work for many hours for less money and so on. Due to lack of awareness and information I could not do much. Thanks HSB for info and looking forward for more info on this.
google has a policy that google adsense are not activated in India and China unless the website in 6 months old.
i am using wordpress. how to place ads in wordpress and does adsense work in wordpress ?
WordPress.com or self-hosted site? If its wordpress.com free site, tehn you cannot place ads in there. You have to move to Blogger or Self-Host worddpress.
i am hosting from 00webhost, not from wordpress.com and i am using wordpress themes.
Let me create another thread about advertising in the blog. We can talk in there.
thank u …that would be very helpful
I wont bore you with my comments HSB….I am your passive fan……i used to just read your blog nd do nothing……. they r quite very informative……i am very thankful to you….but recently i am hitting ur ads….coz i heard that can make u richer……..u are workin hard for your blog…..your blog posts are worth more than the cost my clicking the ads will generate…….thank you for all these blogs for so long time…….
Please don’t do that. Do only of you see something useful for you. Be an active reader. That’s good, post comments and take part in the discussion.
I am an active reader of HSB nowdays ….
Yup. I can see lots of comments from you.
I am truly inspired and ignited about taking up blogging as my career…
HSB readers attention!!!
I am going to create a blog in competition to HSB.. I also will write about the same stuff as HSB.
Now you readers should decide whose blog is better!
MINE or HSB’s?
HSB has really helped me take important decisions and and in acquiring the knowledge that a student should possess prior to going to USA, but…. Business is business! Let’s fight it out in the world of blogging!
As far blogging is concerned, there is no competition. There is my point of view and your point of view.
Hello Miss Sheetal,
Could you mind sharing ur blog link here we will decide are you better then HSB or not …. HSB rocks(Happy School Blog) I also have made an long article but i dont know how to share….
Agreed there’s no competition, but atleast there is something called popularity which every blogger tries to earn to their fullest extent.
Thats true. Good luck.
nice job
1) Good topic, HSB. Now, we at least know the advertising rates for your blog. 🙂
2) Maybe a year ago, I started my blog on blogspot.com I wrote 2-3 articles on society, politics, etc. However, I was not much impressed with the number of hits. Possibly, I wrote on generally boring subjects. (You can always read about politics in newspapers). Now, it’s dormant and I could continue if I get inspired by this article. 😛
3) According to me, it’s more difficult to ‘market’ your blog. Content is indeed important ,but you need to bring people to your blog, at least for the first time. How does one do that?
Varad , nowdays even a worthless blog are creating facebook Advertisement and making it famous ….The thing matters is content if the content is useful then only the readers or people will find it suitable to follow it everyday.I myself find HSB informative so everymorning I used to read HSB articles Thankyou
The main problem in blogging is the content. I don’t want to commit plagiarism, hence I am doubtful about how to write newer and newer things in every blog post. I really want to start blogging but I don’t know how to capture the audience by my writing. I am not highly skilled in my english writing skills and I am still trying to figure out from where I can gather genuine information about my topic.
It will be great help if @HSB guides future bloggers by writing a post regarding “how to blog?-fresh contents every time”……Thanks 🙂
I was expecting this question for long time. Finally, you asked. It’s definitely a challenge. You don’t have to write everyday. There are powerful blogs that post only once per week. How do you think Happy Schools is Getting fresh contents everyday?
I will write about that topic in this series of making money online category.
@ HSB: That would be really helpful. Also if you can suggest about organizing and creating new Content for our blog.
This is a good idea….I believe HSB can help….us in a better way..!!
Well, I have started writing blog it was few days ago and I shared it among my friends, they appreciated the content in it ….. Thanks to you … U r posts always inspired me…keep blogging 🙂
Good start. First friends, then Google will pick it up 🙂
I completed my graduate last month in ECE. but i am intrested in blogging .Please tell me HOW TO START..
Dear Parminer who asked you when did you graduate ????
Parminder Who asked you when did you graduate ????
I am very thankful and happy for the author of this thread.
i would like Indian politicians to be like you.
thank you very much
Plz do not compare politicians with the founder of happy school blog he gives more accurate information and helps each and everyone regarding application procees various standard test examinations such as GRE GMAT SAT TOFEL….
Blogging and earning money depends on one thing which is the Content. In Blogging, only the content matters. If you are thinking that you post your rants and blog your boring life (untill u r a celebrity), you are not going to earn a penny out of blogging.
SO, content matters and the quality of content matters. Many companies hires bloggers to their marketing or PR team to blog about their company or their products. If you have some strong idea of the content which makes difference then you are the one who is going to make money out of blogging and also the regular blogging is must. You can see that if u post just couple of articles with too good content and you start getting money. It will take time and passion and the thorough research. Marketing or promoting your blog also helps a lot.
And one more thing i have noticed that, you should only concentrate on the content and not the money and then only you can make money. If you just fill your blog with ads and the quality of content is going down, in just weeks weeks, you will see ads also going down.
Content is the King in blogging. People start blogging with the dream of making it rich overnight, but it takes time and effort.
You don’t have to write everyday like in HSB. Create great contents, money will follow.
I dont know how to make Google Adds appear in my blog and I also dont have a credit card to pay online . So I would love to make my blog famous but theres no way i can advertise it . I go to websites and post the link of my blog and sometimes user mistakely click in my link and they come to my blog . But I am quiet sure I will be a great blogger someday because I have the vision and once i have a vision i work as a robot .
But its funny I dont have credit card to advertise otherwise i could make a facebook Add and make my blog famous and be happy and make other people happy too .
Is there any way to earn money through blogging that doesn’t involve ads? Actually I don’t know how long ads will continue generating revenue. I for one have this add-on for my browser called Adblock Plus. I’ve been using it for at least a year now, and ads have become non-existent for me. And yes, it’s free (you probably know about it already). And even before I found this add-on, I’d never been a fan of ads. My mind almost automatically ignored them, and I rarely ever clicked on them.
I’m not saying ads are bad, but if you’re not someone who’s looking to earn money through them, you’re going to find them unnecessary. And earning money through blogging, like any new business, will take time to start making a good amount of money out of. Although the good thing with blogging is that the cost to set up isn’t very high. That being said, I don’t think blogging can be looked at as a career. Aren’t you yourself a software engineer, HSB? I think blogging can be started as a hobby if you have the passion for it. If later on you manage to make it a lucrative venture, then only may it be worth considering as a full time job.
Anisha – I thought, after you decide not to study in USA, you stopped following HSB.
Blogging is just one way to make money online. There are several business models without ads. Google males Billions from Ads. Which means everyone browsing in not usins Ad-Block plus 🙂
Ads in the blog is low hanging fruit to start making money online.
One of the reason you are saying blogging cannot be looked at career is because you are not following full time bloggers. There are handful of professional bloggers in India. but there are ton of them in USA, Australia and other countries. I will share few resources, which will give you different perspective towards blogging.
You don’t have to start full time blogging, but it can become full time profession if you have run blog as a business.
Who said I’m not going to study in USA? :O I’m leaving India in 2 weeks 😛
And yes, it’s sad how little awareness there is about such add-ons (well not sad for everyone :P). It’s the same reason why so many people are still using Internet Explorer -_- But I digress.
And trust me, I would LOVE blogging as a career. Becoming a tech editor or something of that sort. I know I would be good at it. But that doesn’t mean I’m *not* going to do my Master’s and that I’m *not* going to look for a job at an MNC once I graduate. I do need some security in my career, some assurance that I will be able to earn.
Truth is, I even bought a domain name and spent a few days designing the look of my to-be-blog, but sadly the page is still stuck on “Under Construction”. I can’t really think of anything I could write about, in spite of searching in many places for inspiration. I’m not even looking to earn money through blogging right now (F1 visa and all) but I just can’t bring myself to write. So I don’t know, maybe if I have a stroke of brilliance.. for now I’m content with maintaining a private blog on LiveJournal.
And if you could give some insight into these “several business models without ads” that’d be great too 😛
Which school? I was thinking you were going to Australia in your comment few weeks back.
When did I ever write about Australia?? Don’t remember. Maybe you’re confusing me with someone else? Or maybe I just have a really bad memory.
I’m going to Florida State University, MS Computer Science 🙂
Hi Mrs.Kamble
How do we buy a domain I dont have a credit card can i buy a domain I want my blog to be famous
And how much is Adsense giving you? 😉
Take a guess 🙂
I guess you would be earning about 15,000$ – 25,000$ per month !!! 😛
It would be nice to have such income 🙂
Yes, I have a blog.I would love to hear the topics HSB would be interested in. Would be a pleasure writing full-time!
Last year I have created a blog @ wordpress.com. I had a range of topics which I wanted to post but do not know the procedure/protocols. So I left my blog as such. I really want to know each and every details of managing a blog effectively.
Majority of the blogs become inactive in 70 days. I have to find the exact stats.
I also wanted to start blogging not able to understand how to take first step.
The main hindrance is passion,i am still in search of myself..my passion.Though i am working in a reputed IT firm,i am not satisfied..I am looking for that 4th option – Self-Employment, Entrepreneurship and i know blogging can help me achieve that.
Passion is Must for blogging.
I donno how I missed this blog post!
Completely agree to this point. Passion is the only thing to keep writing and maintaining a blog. I saw many who started and stopped after sometime due to many reasons (either they started to make only for the purpose of money or so).
HSB is one of the inspirations for my technology blog (iCosmoGeek.com) I should say. I took many suggestions from him and implemented.
Even though I am not a pro-blogger, to all those who wants to start a blog, do not start with the aim of making online income. Consider your area of interest and start following popular blogs in that niche. If you feel comfortable and confident in writing, take suggestions and move on. Do not stop in the middle.
For those who don’t know Avinash – we have been exchanging emails for long time (admission, blogging tips, web hosting, SEO, problogging, resources for blogging). You should check his blog.
Here in India when it comes to being an entrepreneur, the world out here nearly disowns you and going into depths Blogging here would be a new word for many of the folks who don’t use internet and even more for the parents.
Don’t you think Mr. HSB Blogger, the facts what you furnished to us i.e. 125×125 slot for $150 and for 4 slots $600 are because you are having nearly 30k hits (read somewhere about the fig. but not sure about this count). Not every blogger will get the same amount of hits instantaneously.
Your article is very brief, kindly please extend it’s scope. Can you provide us with more details in regards to the same.
“Here in India when it comes to being an entrepreneur, the world out here nearly disowns you”
> Thats true to great extent. Traditionally, parents want their kids to graduate and work for MNC.
Its 5 years of work to get here for HSB. But, if I can do from ZERO knowledge of blogging, others can also get here. I wanted to engage interest level among readers about blogging. Wait for more related articles in the future under Make Money Online (new category).
I wanted to do something independently. that meant i wanted to become a professional trader in stock market. i had admits from american universities but finally i decided not to go there to do what i never wanted. i faced problems from my parents and relatives but now i am earning steadily in stock market. the concept of blogging as a career is fantastic! i would like to know more on it.
You need to start a blog about stock trading. Share your experience.
Raghu,
Agreed that Blogging is a unexplored option. What happens if everyone starts blogging? I mean, which blog would people subscribe and read ? Which blog will the advertisers advertise in ? Don`t you think this blogging industry would saturate at some point of time ? Lets assume, that one of the readers is very excited and passionate about higher education. Then he would start a New blog called Appy Skcool Blog (ASB).. How can he even imagine that he would generate traffic to his blog ? I mean, in almost all aspects of life, there are some exceptionally written blogs, just like yours. So, how can one compete and attract traffic when such expectionally written blogs already exists? I think Bloggging industry is saturated. Correct me if I am wrong. Say, tomorrow I want to start a blog about Computers or about Bikes or about Photography, There are more than 20 pro-bloggers already in that field. This is the main reason that`s pulling me back from writing a blog.
That`s why I try my best to contribute to already existing blogs and I have written a couple of guest posts for you if you remember.
(And I just used HSB as a example. Nothing against your blog and I`m a huge fan of your blog. Always 🙂 )
Arun – Haven’t seen you in long time. Right after I completed 12th (before results came out), I was invited to meet with my cousin (haven’t seen him before). He was getting ready to fly to US for his MS. He said after MS he plans do PhD. I asked him same exact question “By the time I come to USA for MS or PhD, will there be any topic left to do research in PhD”. He laughed. This should answer your question about saturation in Blogging.
There are ton of people making money online as full time. Not just 20 probloggers.
I had the same feeling when I HSB was started. But, people come here to listen my view point and they go to their places to listen to others view point. So, if you are passionate about something, then you need to start blogging.
I agree with you HSB. If we think that many people already did PhD and there are very few or no areas to explore in Doctors degree then there should not be no one going for PhD. But thats not the case.
All we have to do is to create a special image of ourselves. Try to let the world know about our ‘blog world’. Facebook, twitter, google plus are the ways to post the links to of blog posts to expand our blogs.
Also add interesting images, facts, statistics to the posts to attract people.
All is well !!! 😀
Blogging is definitely a very good career option. For all those people who have varied interests one way where you could combine your interests and help others:-)
But getting the right ads is what counts..HSB That would need some light on.Blogging isn’t about what is in the market..It is a lot about your passion/interests.There are readers for every kind of topics. You just need to market yourself right.
Apart from that suppose we work 20 hours in the US while studying but blog and earn as well or earn from other internet sources/online jobs is that considered legal?Just a question.popped right up!
You cannot earn while in US on F1 via Online income.
If you are passionate, then start blogging, build your community. Then if if gets hit, consider making money online.
Is it illegal to earn online(blogging) while studying in US ..?
Yes.
Problem in India is people are not aware of this , and for your question “What is preventing you from considering blogging as a career in India?” , I think here in India many people are from middle class and the mindset of parents and students here is to get into some MNC where he/she can have job secure or go further studies which will help them to build their carrier, if you ask them to choose blogging as carrier , 1st question is do we really earn that much ? if so is there any guarantee that i will earn same for life long and also people think like blogger is some thing which is less reputed job when compared to S/W engg ( prestigious issue) …………..
Prestige Issue in Big Deal. Do you know what I feel jealous about?
Probloggers whom I follow. They make like $50,000 per month. Yes, per month.
You can decide who’s parents will be proud 🙂
Vishnu is correct HSB. But it is not very easy to earn money from blogs. If one sincerely write posts for about 1- 1.5 yrs, that too specifically related to some ADs then they can earn 700$-1,000$ per month.
Also the posts must be interesting !!!
Within 2-3 years one can earn about 2,500-4,000$ depending upon the number of comments and no. of pages/ADs clicked.
One thing is sure that more no. of blog followers will help to earn more money !!!
Happy Blogging !!! 😀
Hi HSB,
I did not get how one can earn more than thousand dollars per month ? Is it from advertisement only or something else ? How that is possible ?
Hi HSB,
I did not get how one can earn more than thousand dollars per month ? Is it from advertisement only or something else ?
Prestige issue: I didn’t mean that parents will b proud off. I mean to say that here in India people feel proud by saying that they are s/w engg .
I am a dental school graduate from India and it would be very helpful if you could guide me on how to proceed.
I am a dental school graduate from India and it will be great if you could show me some light on how to proceed further.
How do you proceed step by step if you have to start a career in blogging
Rohti – For blogging there is not written step by step rules. You create a blog and start writing. Thats it. I will post more about detailed steps.
currently writing articles for a blog and thinking of making it big. But unable to find resources about whom to contact & all….
It will be very good if HSB posts the stepwise procedure for how to start blogging..??whom to contact & how much will be the investment..?? ..etc..
I’m looking for interest level among HSB readers about blogging. One of the main reason is folks are not aware of such opportunity exists. Let’s see how many readers comment here.
I started a blog about 5 months back. I posted about 20 posts in 1 month. I tried to get ADs from Google Adsense. They rejected and replied that my posts were too general and ads cannot be matched to it. So, I am planning to write posts which point out to ADs like company equipments, machinery etc.,
Hope it works !!! 😛
I haven’t and even many others like me have not thought of this as full time career…
Excellent job by HSB.
will seriously consider this option
Kiran
Yes, you should consider blogging. But, you have to be passionate about the topics you wan to write about.
Actually I was blogging few years ago with google adsense for ads and it really paid good, but the thing is to make the blog reachable through SEO optimization techniques and the content should be catchy and also good..
Now I am not into it completely seeing this may be I may resume it again in the coming days..
It’s not easy but it’s possible to learn about SEO and create contents.
