How to Build a Your Perosnal Brand and Market Yourself

I would like to convey few updates and message that you will find useful in the article. After running iPod giveaway contest, I realized many of you are silent followers (passive readers).

But, you are not realizing the importance of interaction with others by posting comments and sharing your thoughts.

Trust Me: People love to stay anonymous, but they open up to all sort of problems by posting in Facebook (without controlling their privacy settings).

Why You Should Post Comments

Posting frequent comments ( in HSB or othet places) will go on to help you in many ways, to name a few

  1. I can recognize the names of those who post comments frequently. If you have a questions and you post comments frequently, I will be more inclined to answer your questions or help you out. Just ask some 1000’s of readers who got help form me just for being active in the community. When you are spending time to interact with others, it’s not fair to not answer your questions. If you are fairly active, I will bend my back to solve your problems.
  2. If you like to go one step further and write your experience as guest blog post, you stand a chance to get more benefits. One one one time.
  3. Students I have interviewed reach out to me via Skype all the time with their questions.

Students who are interacting with me frequently by emails, blog comments, sending articles about their experience  certainly know the benefits.

If there is a job opening or internship that I come across, then I send emails to those students who active in my network, asking them to send their resume.

Several students and friends have got internship and full time jobs through my contacts and network.

If you are going to stay silent and one fine day you decide to send an email like this

passive reader of happy schols

If you were a follower and took part in the comments section or answers other folks questions, then I would have jumped on a call to answer the question.

But, I don’t recognize you.

If you were not active in the community, I have no idea who you are and I’m not going to reply to you.

You have to make yourself more visible.

This is all part of the how you build a personal brand for yourself and establish your presence in social network.

If you really want to establish a personal brand, you can become a regular contributor. If you have decent writing skills, then I can create an Author Profile for you. You will rank high in Google Search for your name.

Here’s another thing: For people who don’t know the value of the personal band and building relationship,  if there’s one advice you want to get from Happy Schools, then it should about “Building Your Personal Brand”.

Get the Blog Updates

Most of you visit the blog only after you receive emails. If you are not following Happy Schools Blog on Twitter, you are missing out on many great articles that is shared only in Twitter.

Also, you may have noticed that questions posted in Happy Schools Blog Facebook page have answers.

There are many ways you can increase your visibility and presence.

Try to make full use of it. Staying inactive  is not going to help you.

When it comes to job search, if you don’t have an active social media presence, you cannot find a job in this market.

Just ask the current students who are struggling to find a job. You have to cultivate the habit for making your presence felt by being active in social media world (LinkedIn, Twitter, FaceBook, Blogs, etc).

  4. Hi Raghu,
I appreciate your frankness that beneficiaries of this blog should be more active-myself inclusive. It speaks volume. It not only helps enrich this blog, it has the potential to permeate other areas of one’s life. You mentioned two key words: branding and marketing, which are salient in this age. I would like to ask these questions: what qualities make up a great brand or put more simply a great personal brand. What does marketing have to do with personal brand? Thank you for your attention.

  6. Hello Sir,

I just want to ask,is this a wise decision considering my messed up profile(EC–CS–Back to EC)???

    Thanks & Regards,
    Pawan.

  14. i have also subscribed to your newsletter. I don't follow HSB on twittwr or face book because i don't use them regularly. i am not social but i have answered some ques.tudents on hsb which i knew.

  15. Sir i had written only a few comments in 6 months, although i follow hsb daily.

I have also contacted you through contact and comments. But some of my ques are still not answered.

I have admit from1 universityof five what should i answer if asked about applied universities? Also i had applied for EE in some univs. and physics in my admit. Also CSU chico doesn't have physics m.s. program?

    1. @shilpa.

You must understand that not all people get admit from all univ they apply. it applies even for students here in US. so always say the truth that i applied for 5 and got admit in 1 univ which suits my interest and profile and research and career which which i want to pursue, back it up with some research about the prof whom u r interested and like to pursue there.

what i mean to say is just dont stop answer in single sentence explain a bit like you like to study there. hope it helps.
