What is Plagiarism?

  • It means you are copying someone’s work and claiming to be yours.

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Plagiarism means the following

  • to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own
  • to use (another’s production) without crediting the source
  • to commit literary theft
  • to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source

Here’s a crazy thing about Plagirism : Not only copies words count as plagiarism, even the ideas, art work count as plagiarism.

There are so many other experiences shared by readers about impact of copying assignment here in the blog.

When I was in Grad School, bunch of students in Operating System Course were caught for copying programming assignments. Some were given F grade and few were asked to re-take the course.

This infographics was created by UIC HealthInformatics Course and I have given the credit by inking to the original source. If I haven’t given credit, then this would be considered as Copyright Violation (or another form of plagiarism).
