Come Back Plan – F1 Visa Interview and Winning Back the Lost Love

This is continuation from of my journey – I Failed in College, Love and Life. Here’s My Come Back Plan. It’s Working.

Here’s my F1 Visa Interview experience and it was a Nightmare to deal with. With close to dozens of backlogs, I was well aware of my chances.

F-1 Visa interview experience 

I am from Andhra Pradesh but my father is working at Mumbai. So, I went to Mumbai consulate to attend Student F1 Visa interview. Visa officer was in early 40’s.

This is how my visa interview at U.S. Consulate in Mumbai went.

 

VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning sir, how are you?

VO: I am fine, please pass me your I-20 and passport.  (I handed the required docs and he checked my details)

VO: you are from Andhra Pradesh and why did you came here to Mumbai Consulate?
Me: Sir,  my father is working here and I have no one staying in Hyderabad so I selected this consulate for visa interview.  (He was not satisfied with this answer)

VO: When did you complete your under graduation
Me:  In this Year ( XYZ )

VO: So, what are you doing since  then?
Me: I have completed my post graduate diploma program in Environment and Sustainable Management. (He was looking into my eyes and I guess he was not believing in me)

Me: Do you want to see PG Diploma certificates?

VO: No need. Anyway why did you come to this consulate?  (Same question)
Me: Sir, my dad works here in Mumbai.

VO: No, No, No. Tell me the real reason.  (I am doomed)
Me: Sir, I am telling you the truth

(VO was not even interested in listening to me and I was certain of going for my second interview at Hyderabad consulate. Then someone from inside came and both talked for some five minutes and those five minutes are five decades for me).

VO: Ok, tell me the reason. (He is not leaving that point)

 

Me: Sir, I can show my dad’s PF and other documents to prove that he is living in Mumbai.
(Someone called from inside and he went off; I could sense that my game is over, just waiting to hear the bitter words from his side. He came after 2 minutes )

VO: Ok, I’m asking you for the final time, why you came to this consulate
Me: (at this moment I was not in a controlled manner and I know that my dreams are shattered, so I bluntly said) Sir that’s the only reason I have.

 

VO: Go and take your hand impressions.  ( The scanning was just beside so took it and came back to interrogation ).
VO: What is  your father doing?

Me:  He is working in so and so company.

VO: Is it a government company?

Me: Yes sir, it comes under Department of Finance. (By this moment I was just waiting to hear the final words and run back; I don’t know how to face my dad)

 

VO: Ok, your visa has been approved.

 

I was shocked and couldn’t believe what just happened.

I was checking my file just to make sure that passport was not with me. I didn’t even wish him and was simply in cloud 9.

I came out of the consulate and could see my father far away. He was looking at me and looked tensed. I just waved my hands and a thumbs up.

That’s it. We hugged each other, he was crying and my mom was crying over phone.

I will never forget that day.

Are you planning to ask your GF out again after you go to USA?

I still love for her. At the same time I don’t want to disturb her or myself right now.

I am going very close to her university and even she knows that I am coming to USA but anything can be possible only after I get settled. Let’s see what destiny gives me

In two weeks’ time, I will be flying to the U.S. in search of a better education and career. And guess what? I will win my girl back, too.

My mistakes have helped me adapt, become a better person. Learned from my failures.
