F1 Visa – Ghana

*Me: Hi…Good afternoon daddy

VO: Hi…good afternoon

*Me: Merry Christmas

VO: What did you say?

*Me: (repeated)

VO: oh oh same to you

VO: where did you complete your undergrate, and may I have a look at your transcript?

*Me: (told my undergrate school and shown my transcript)

VO: I see many science courses you did on your transcript, why then do you wanna master in christian studies and not in science?

*Me: I wanna go into the ministry of our Lord Jesus, than being a scientist.

VO: Let me advise you. Science and theology are no different things. You can be a scientist and a theologian at the same time. Many great scientists that ever existed were also religious.

*Me: Well noticed by me, daddy.

VO: So why this particular university, despite the numerous christain Universities in the States?

*Me: I read a book that touched me and the author is a product of the school. This makes me set this school above others. Thus I wanna study there to acquire such knowledge.

VO: oh ok. Who is/are sponsoring your education?

*Me: My Uncle, and my brother-In-Law (he didn’t actually look at the documents)

VO: I’m approving your visa. Come Tuesday, 3rd Jan., for you passport.

I conclude, suggest or advise:

  1. be prayerful because the bible says the horse is prepared for the day of battle but safety is from God. It says again that no king is safe by the size of his army. I say this because people have “all” required documents yet are refused, and vice versa.
  2. be polite to the visa officer: greet him/her.
  3. be very confident.
  4. keep eye contact
  5. observe the occasion and greet him/her with that. Eg. merry xmas, happy new year, happy mum’s or dad’s day, etc..etc..

As Shekar asked even i wanted to know why you called him “DADDY”.

    All the very best!!

    Thanks and Regards,

  3. Hey Alex,

Thank you for sharing your experience. Trust me of all the Visa Experiences I have read yours happens to be the most motivating. The way you summed it “no king is safe by the size of his army” and relating this to the required documents actually makes a lot of sense. This is what I will recall before my Visa Interview.

Also, sorry my understand of other cultures is weak, but did you really call him “DADDY”?

  4. There is no such things, eye contact ….
    It’s just their mood, there is no rule;
The vice chancellor of a university told me that, it’s pure luck. That is America

    1. I don’t think their is any luck their. And I am sure there is “No Mood” factor too. Take an example of the experiences posted by many rejects, their Communication skills can be easily judged to be poor. And the deserving candidates have always made it, if not the first, the second time.

And, don’t you think that a Majority of the applicants, choose random universities because someone suggested, do no background checks, and then just apply. Now a person who has been trained to catch this fact, how difficult is it for him to do so, and with practice he just gets better.

    2. Well, from my own experience there is eye contact. If you look VO straight in the eyes, they seem to think you are telling the truth. Nothing like the mood, you put them in whatever mood they are from the moment you walk in. You can always change their whatever mood, she did by calling her dad and all that. Though luck play important role but nothing in everything.

      1. Disagree. The amount of responsibilities on the VO is tremendous. They are either making/breaking futures. They can never be subjective, the chances of getting rejected are more if you call your VO Dadddy. There has to be some religious link to it, makes more sense considering the study he has opted for.

Also, in this case, the interview was short because just by looking the way he writes he can be easily judged to be a pious man, which I am sure must have come across his personality. Add to the fact that he is opting for Religious studies even though he has a Science background. the guy seems like he is going with a plan and he knows what he is doing. I see no reason for him to be rejected. The VO seems to have done a good job.

P.S: Sorry Alex, I am passing so many Judgments about you.

    3. It does have a luck factor, but its not pure luck. If it were pure luck then even someone who says “Screw you, americans” would have a chance, but clearly he would be kicked out instead. The luck is essentially getting a strict or lenient VO. But it does depend upon you too.
