The Secret of Getting Admission with Scholarship in U.S. Universities

Have you ever wondered how to get a graduate school admission with scholarship? Each and every college student applying for graduate school admission has one big dream, i.e., to get admission with scholarship or some form of aid.

It’s a very tough question to answer and it applies to a specific student profile or per individual basis. But wait, there is a sure way to get admission based on your GRE scores with scholarship.

When you are shortlisting graduate school universities, take note at the minimum GRE, TOEFL, and GPA requirements for each school. Some grad schools and colleges will have different requirements from the department requirements. Make sure to check out the college/university admission requirements both the at the department level and the grad school level.

Now you know you must collect that important information. I have seen students classify their target colleges into ‘Ambitious,’ ‘Moderate,’ and ‘Safe’ categories. I would like to relate the word “ambitious” to “luck,” which means “very low probability”. Why would someone waste a few hundred dollars in college application fees, GRE, TOEFL score forwarding, and application documents courier fees when his or her grad school admission is not sure?

Example:

  • GRE Score:  300
  • Grad School Minimum Requirement: 310
  • And other factors are less than the minimum requirements.

I really wouldn’t waste my time and money in applying to such college.

Instead, I would spend more time in searching for universities and colleges that suit my profile. Also, it’s better to find decent schools that has research funding and with minimum requirements less than those of your credentials.

Example:

  • Your GRE Score:  320
  • Grad School Minimum Requirement:  305
  • And other factors are more or equal to the minimum requirements.

There are so many grad schools out there with lots of research and scholarship opportunities. But, it takes time to find such schools.

To answer the question I asked above, the secret to getting such admission is to apply for schools that have minimum requirements below your credentials (GRE, TOEFL, etc.). But don’t select schools that have very low minimum requirements. If your score is 1350, apply for schools with 1100 as minimum requirement; don’t go for schools with 1000 as the least allowable score.

Having short listed such schools, I would suggest you read How to email professors for guaranteed admission.

Has this magic worked before? Yes, it did! I know many who got admitted by following this simple but effective tactic.

    1. depends on university but attaching a table to convert %tage to gpa. see if it helps you.

Converting percentage marks in certain systems to grade point average in the American system is somewhat complicated. In order to convert percentages to gpa, the evaluator must know the grading scale of a particular school. For instance, if the lowest passing grade is 35%, grades above 70% would be rare.
Percentage US Grade Equivalent GPA (approximate)
      60-100 A 4.00
      55-59 B+ 3.33
      50-54 B 3.00
      43-49 C+ 2.33
      35-42 C 2.00
      0-34 F 0.00
Grades which fall at the high or low end of a bracket can be converted to GPA. For instance, a 62% can be viewed as an A- or 3.67; or a 48 or 48% might be viewed as a B- or 2.67 GPA. Since there are different scales of markings available in India , it is up to the evaluator to make the most accurate conversion of percentage to GPA.
      IMPORTANT NOTE:
I have suggested several times that you should not convert your grades. Submit them with your application as provided by your Institute or College.

  13. Hi there,
I have passed MBBS and im heading to MPH programme in next spring term. My gre score is 1050 n toefl one is 85. I would like to apply in some genetics or biostates related programme from good university. Can you any some useful link.

  14. I’d disagree with the part where you said “Why would someone has to waste few hundred dollars in college application fee and GRE and TOEFL score forwarding, application documents courier fee, when grad school admission is not sure.” -> You haven’t at all factored in the case that a university where you will very easily get into (with the exception of some like USC), is simply not worth it?

If you’re considering spending a sizeable portion of your savings on graduate school, why should it not be on some place where you’d be proud of attending?

In the end, you will be going to just one university and abandoning the other admits, and hence, its only that one good admit that matters, instead of a dozen mediocre ones.

  15. all ur examples deal with GRE scores lower than minimum requirement.
wat happens for GRE score 1500, good recos , good projects, but gpa just abt 3??
