    1. Hi Viral, As far as the curriculum is concerned you are the best judge to it. But yes the basic difference between the degree programmes is, MS can lead to a PhD while a ME programme usually can not help getting into a PhD. In other words MS is a thesis based programme. See if this information helps you decide. Both the Universities are good and reputed. You can choose any one of them.

    bachelors in EEE- 53%
    extra cirriculars -robotics and have attended many tech fests and also have vast knowledge in the field of robotics since the past four years.
    i am looking out for colleges that also give little importance to extra cirriculars like robotics apart from acads because my acads is a let down.anybody suggest colleges with courses for masters in electrical and computer engineering.thanks a ton.

I am goin to take my TOEFL on Dec.11th.. my gre score is 1240(verbal-440 and Quants-800) I have a CGPA of 9.14 and also an international publication. I want to do my M.S. in EE(Power systems).     2. My son scored an 1480 on the SAT scores before they introduced the writing section.
      verbal 720
      math 760
      after looking at different enginereeing schools he decided upon stevens institute of tech.
      it was a great choice!
      small and demanding work.
      upon graduation with a 3.82 gpa,he immediatelywas offerred a job at picatinnay arsenal working for ardek.
      after 3 years of working there as a small munitions engineer he has attained a yearly salary of $98,000/yr. with bonuses for any patents he piolets.
      i would recommend stevens by all means.

    1. RIT is not that good for embedded..We have only two courses for embedded at graduate level. And that too it is in Comp engg not in electrical. Comp engg is different from comp science.

      1. Hey Keerthi,

        I am doing my masters in Tennessee Tech. Please mention your stream in engineering and also the major you want to apply for. Having a 5-year work experience would always be an advantage. You can choose good schools, if not the top notch ones, whose ranks range from 50-100. Also mention your TOEFL score. Applying now would be difficult for you to come here this Fall as the deadlines for almost all the good schools got over. Hope this helps, thanks!

    You have good score in our gre as well as in btech and you can get better universities and coming to funding every college provides funding for students,and if u go for average universities they give more funding to you.

    8) Michigan state university

    I have not applied to any top end university, due to financial considerations.

    Now, my doubt is:

    a) What are my chances of being admitted and, possibly, securing scholarship in these universities (especially Purdue and Texas A&M)?

    b) How much impact would be made by the fact I have done quite less research work and research papers?

    1. Please see my responses earlier.

      You may give GRE again in Jan that should help. Fall 2011 is ok. If you have excellent UG score say GPA 8 and above, try for Maryland, Ohio State, Virginiatech, texas austin, A&M; UF gainsville, UMinnesota. SUNY Buffalo, Iowa state, SUNY Stonybrook, look for universities having maximum MS seats. If you have surplus funds, then Univ of southeren california.

      1. Suggest give TOEFL and GRE once again in Jan. Generally University results arrive in April – May and TOEFL – GRE results will be available for the universities.

        You may consider Iowa State, SUNY Stonybrook, NYU Polytechnic, VirginiaTech, Arizona State, Univ of Texas system (other than Austin), Clemson, refer to universities having maximum MS seats..

      Choose universities with higher acceptance ratio. Repeat GRE, this might enhance assistantship chances..

    1. 1360 is a very good score especially Quant. Look for Tier 1 universities.

      Cherry pick from this list or look at the NCES website where the number of seats available are mentioned under college navigator. Try to choose universities having more than 100 seats in the EE specialization, (example University of Southern California has 425 seats for MS, sure to get and very expensive), Drexel has 38 seats for MS EE as per NCES site and you may perhaps avoid universities with lesser seats – for the scores (1300-1400 range).

      You may consider the following possible options.

      I) MIT, Univ of Illinois at UC, Georgiatech

      II) Univ of Minnesota, Purdue, UTexas at Austin, Univ of Florida

      III) Ohio State Columbus, North Carolina State, Texas A&M College Station, Virginia tech

      IV) NYU Polytechnic, Arizona State, New Mexico State.

        1. You may perhaps assume 50 – 60% success rate. It is better to have handful for making a choice. So apply for 9 – 12 universities.

          No idea about assistantship. it is better to assume unlikely and if you get then all the better – include Univ of Florida.

    1. Looks to me that you must try another attempt at GRE and you should be able to improve the scores to at least 1350.

      Michigan, Texas A&M, Texas at Austin appear very doubtful for 1010. At 1350, it is optimistic. Arizona state University is likely.

    1. I have heard that NYU is a very good university, so what if it did not appear in rankings? By the time, you leave this institute, they may be among the top. Another relatively not well known and very good for EE is New Mexico State.
