How Much to Pay for Resumé Writing?

Professional resumé writing services is expensive to tap. I have to agree with that notion. One of these firm, Resumé Edge, charges around $180 for their resumé writing offerings.

Regarding this concern, the normal question is, "Is $180 too much for getting a resumé written professionally?"

A Resumé is an Art

First, please look at your resumé and compare it with some sample resumé templates in Resumé Edge. Can you prepare a resumé of that quality?

If so, then there is no need for you to read this article, right? I have looked at so many resumés made by students and anyone will be surprised to see the mistakes that will definitely lower their chances to get called for an interview.

I must highlight this — a resumé with mistakes wouldn’t get anyone any interview call from potential employers.

Common Resumé Mistakes

Here is a list of some of the most common mistakes in resumés I have come across with:

  1. One page resumé with not enough information
  2. Master’s level student will have just 1 or 2 projects listed
  3. Objective is not clear.
  4. Skills set will list all programming languages, but no projects to support them
  5. Spelling Mistakes
  6. Format looks crumbled or too tight(not appealing)
  7. Missing phone numbers and email address
  8. Don’t have a copy in ASCII format.

$180 for Resumé Writing

Let’s face it, you should have spent $20,000 to $50,000 in a graduate education and might be willing to spend $4 on a Starbucks coffee once per day or several times a week.

And maybe $10 for a movie ticket, $200 for an iPhone, etc., but unwilling to spend $180 for something that will ultimately get you full time job.

If you just make a one-time expense of $180, that resumé can be modified and used for next the 4 to 5 years before you will need to get it thoroughly revamped with your new job experiences and skills learned.

There are many resumé writing services out there. I have personally used 2 of the best, but I recommend Resumé Edge because I was not satisfied with other services.

I say this because with Resumé Edge, you get

  1. Word Document Resumé
  2. ASCII format of the same resumé
  3. Online link to your resumé (easy to send to employer or creative resumé marketing).

The other services will not give the same above offerings for only $180. Go with full resumé writing service based on your experience (entry level, student, etc.) with Resumé Edge, not just for a resumé review or resumé critique.

If you are thinking of spending for a professional resumé writing service, please do it before making actual job searches, not 1 month before your 90 days OPT expiration date comes.
