In USA bed refers to the frame (wodden, metal, etc) and mattress is where you sleep on.

  1. I did some research about the ways we sleep and became particularly interested in Japanese style shiki-futons and sleeping on bare floor. I found that minimalism can be applied every part of our lives. Less really is more. I started sleeping on the floor because my parents started to do so and my back was also suffering, they said it corrected their sleeping posture and their backs don’t hurt after waking up. I even talked my significant other into doing the same. Also, sleeping on the floor doesn’t cost a thing and is “free-size”. You will NEVER fall off the bed =). So why go and spend too much to sleep correctly? However, I dream of owning a shiki-futon just because it’s so beautiful and cozy looking, great for winter time and just when I want a bit more comfort than the floor. While my friends here in Houston, Texas love their cali-kings and beds you literally have to climb a ladder to get to…I’m completely satisfied with my bed-less style. I love the philosophy behind t&n, they are environmentally and socially conscious, something I stand strongly behind. They aren’t just bed makers, but they are craftsmen and designers. I would go with queen for me and my other (more evil) half.

  2. I also live in St. Paul, Mn. I currently sleep on an Ikea Sultan Sandane. It would be awesome to get a queen size since I have such a small apartment. : )

  3. And the Winner is Shekar Sharma.

First winner was Uday Deep Singh. I sent him email and FB message. He hasn’t responded over a week.

    Congrats Shekar.

For those who are sleeping in comforter and couches, please spend some money to get a good mattress to sleep. This futon is awesome. It will last for long time and easy to carry around.

If you can’t spend for your daily basic necessity, thee is no point in getting education by spending several thousands of dollars.

    1. Hi I am Shekar Sharma. And I am writing to confirm that, as promised I did receive my mattress. And its awesome.

The winner was decided fair and square. I do not know HSB personally and hence this was not rigged. Right Raghu? (wink wink).

I have been sleeping way better than before (I used to sleep on the floor carpet) and now I know how wrong I was in not opting for a mattress. Like it was mentioned here previously, sleep is an important part of our life.

      Thanks HSB and Daehee Park.

  14. Hi,
First of all, I noticed that the changed the theme and the new commenting platform. Much better than before when I mentioned it to you.

Anyway, I sleep on a crushed bed-in-a-box type thingy. I wanted to get a new cheap mattress or something, but you know how money matters are for international students.
I’m located in Buffalo, New York. I’d love a Twin size.

Again, kudos to the new look and feel.

  15. I use a comforter now. But i would prefer to get a queen size one. that will make me happy. Because a cotton mattress will make me a good night ever and it will help me to dream well. I live in JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI.

  20. I sleep on a sleeping bag….not very ideal

    Shiki Futon looks really comfortable

I am based in Texas and wouldn’t mind a Full or a Queen size

  21. I use a twin size mattress that I bought from Ikea.. but I just bought a queen size bed (so my mom can sleep on it too when she comes to visit)..but I don’t have any funds left to buy the mattress.. Once I get that.. I’ll be giving away my twin size bedframe and mattress to the next batch of students

I am located in Cincinnati, Ohio

    Queen size please!

  22. Wow! How do you even get such thoughts? First, you advise students aiming for higher studies abroad and provide them with smart tips and strategies. And now, you’re also trying to make our lives comfortable(literally) by providing us with the best futon out there for free!
Well, as they say, “we spend 33% of our lives sleeping and it’s in our hands to make sure that it is 100% comfortable!”. I’ll tell you that I sleep on 2 comforters stacked together and it is, like, 60% comfortable. But I’ll be glad if I can get a full sized one delivered at Fresh meadows, Queens, New York, I am sure that I can get a 100% comfortable sleep everyday! Thanks for being so concerned about us!

  23. Now that is a cool giveaway. I’m done with Step 1, time for Step 2.

Well, we just use comforters for now, so would love to win this one.

I’m based in Concord, California and will prefer the Queen one while I’m at it. 🙂

  24. I currently use a small size futon and its totally uncomfortable ( i bought it because it was cheap and got it online so didn’t understand the size ), my location is Rochester and i need a full size

  25. I sleep on the floor carpet. I repeat I SLEEP ON THE FLOOR CARPET. You have no clue how desperately I need a Mattress. And I am not saying this just for the sake of it. I share a room with one other guy and after stuffing our room with study tables and chair from a free furniture giveaway (God Bless The Souls of the Blacksburg Community) we have absolutely no space for anything else. Given the fact that this mattress can be folded and fit into small space, this sounds like the perfect thing for me to get.

I live in Blacksburg, Virginia and study at Virginia Tech. A Twin size would be great.

HSB and Shiki Futon, please be my Santa Claus.

  26. I sleep on a sealy mattress from Sam’s club. It has its ups and downs.

My location is where I grew up, here in the lehigh valley of Pennsylvania.

I would like a queen size please! 😀
