Source – NRC Data Based Survey – 2010

NRC publishes Top 100 Universities in the USA for Computer Science rankings every 10 years, unlike US News. It takes quite a long time for them to gather detailed information about research in computer science departments.

Universities that offer Graduate programs are then ranked using various factors. The end result of the surveys and information is Top 100 Universities in the USA for Computer Science and Engineering.

  • S-Rank – Survey Based Rank.
  • R-Rank – Research-Based Rank

You may not understand the R and S rank, but all that matters is a list of Top 100 Universities in America for Computer Science and Engineering for MS and PhD.

I have 1.5 years of experience working in an IT company. Now I will be starting preparing for post-graduation. I am a bit confused whether to go for GRE or GMAT. Actually I was trained on Japanese language by the company then was put on Java training. But the project which I was assigned is Java based ERP system, I was looking after maintenance of the product no hands on coding experience I have. I have gained basic Finance knowledge from tthe project. So now I have to choose between GRE and GMAT.I am bit confused which way to choose because experience wise I am not good at particular. Can you please help me out finding a way?
And will my Japanese language skill help me during MS for placements?

    Thanks
    Prachi

  21. shivaprasad on March 8, 2013 at 2:59 AM

Hello sir, I am shiva prasad kalla from hyderabad, india . I am in 4th yr BTECH(computer science). I am planning for masters in Computer science(fall 2013). sir, i have few doubts about masters..please kindly clear them .
    1) Is Florida International Univ’s masters in computer science degree valuable? actually, some people here r saying few words like FIU is low level college, faculty doesn’t know much, students r rude and FIU charges more with Fees… is it real madam? actually, i am an above average student and need internship and job after my MS. so, is FIU correct for me?
    2) How are the placements after MS in FIU for CS ? can i get a good job after my MS?
    3) can i get a part-time job easily in FIU?
Please kindly clear my doubts sir, needed information urgently as deadline is approaching

    • HSB Counselor on March 8, 2013 at 5:36 AM

Hi Shiva, Your choice for FIU is apt or not depends on your profile details. There is no harm in joining this University. While you have chosen this University, you must have gone through the current projects being carried out and the computer science coursework. Check for these details if not done so far.
For placements, student themselves need to be vigilant enough. International student organizations or placement cells are always supportive. Try to get in touch with the students who have already joined this University for better understanding.
Part time jobs are available but not all students get this opportunity. Try to network well from day one for best possible outcome.

HI? Can I know why to choose MS in Computer science in UTD? Can i get answers?

  27. Jun on July 3, 2012 at 7:51 AM

Definately UT Dallas should be way up. I got admission from ASU, NJIT, FSU. But I chose UTD and so did many others I know although they got accepted to UIC, IUB and U at Buffalo. It is becoming one of the leading institutions in areas like CyberSecurity not to mention that you have great chance for scholarship and job hunting with low goods prices.

I have completed my BE in CS with first rank in University from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. I have take date for GRE and TOEFL and expect to score 330/340 in GRE and 110/120 in TOEFL. I scored 87% in BE. I have done research on Optimization of Bandwidth during live video streaming from one place to another. In my research work, we developed a new video optimization algorithm based on pixel intensity difference and also published research paper in SKIMA, an European research organization. Prior to my BE, I completed my ISc with distinction in Physics from Patna, India and Matriculation from CBSE board scoring 89% with 99 in Science. I would like to know what kind of universities I can apply to and expect to get admitted in? I m also currently working on another research project in my college involving genetic algorithm. I have been working as a lecturer since last november… please suggest me some universities… can i get admission to MIT or Harvard?

Dude – NRC is most trusted than any other rankings for US Universities. It takes 5 to 7 years to collect data to publish.

No way Florida State can be right after Caltech. Sometimes these rankings can get so crazy.

I don't agree with this. UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT DALLAS is at last. No way. This is the best university in Dallas area. So it has to be in above ranking of Texas tech and Uni. of north Texas. I am passout from UTD and I must say, guys passing out from UTD have much higher job success rate than those universities. I do agree that fundng might be a problem initially in UTD. But overall its the best in Dallas area. For example, This spring '10 Ericcsson came for on-campus and took 35 students from on-campus. On-campus in very rare in US universities and this happens in UTD and no other university in Dallas area is able to make on campus placements.

dude….It says that UTD is not ranked…not that it bottoms the list…..

UTD is still relatively new and small compared to many other universities so it’s still building its reputation and name. A big reason the top names are at the top is because of research, published papers, and hire rates for fresh graduate hires, not including undergraduates. UTD still has a bit of a ways to go with regards to all of those since it’s still new. Almost all, if not all, of the PhD and Masters students UNT get very well-paid jobs just after graduating because of the strong graduate programs therr. If utd’s program proves its worth then it’ll get ranked. In the meantime, it stays where it’s at. Doesn’t mean it’s bad or anything, just new.
